Cavan Institute College is a new V.E.C. educational facility in Cavan town. It is now home to 600 students in a state-of-the-art new facility.
Elliott Group prequalified and were shortlisted for the tender, then were successful in the face of strong competition from local and national contractors. Construction on the project was undertaken under the GDLA form of Contract.
The college is designed in three distinct blocks, each two storeys high. The blocks are linked by corridors. External facades feature natural sandstone, plaster, and aluminium windows. Natural slates were used on the roof. During construction, ground conditions posed a significant challenge since the site had at one time been water-logged. Pre-cast piling was used as the foundation to overcome the problem.
The new building provides a fine educational facility for Cavan town and displays Elliott Group’s core skills of high-quality construction on a greenfield site, while overcoming the engineering challenges presented by adverse ground conditions.
